“It meant so much to us, it was like our dream to be on the Smash Hits show. We had seen the New Kids win awards and other groups and I remember in 1991 we hadn’t been invited to do the show. We even offered to do the warm up but they said we just weren’t famous enough. We had put some time by to be on the show and when we found out that we weren’t on it we had nothing on our schedule so we all sat at home together round Robbie’s house and watched the show on telly. We actually cried. We were so gutted that this going on and we weren’t a part of it. The next year we never even thought we’d win and award let alone breaking records. That was a special time and I think we’ll always remember how it felt”.- Mark on breaking records at winning awards on the Smash Hits Poll Winner Party in 1992

“When we came up with the idea of dropping our trousers at the end of the show we first stuck the letters to our bums but they kept peeling off with the sweat! So we cut down pairs of tights and stuck the letters on so it looked like we weren’t wearing any undies, but the tights weren’t very good if we turned round! They were a bit revealing and not very supportive! So in the end we all got some white underpants and dipped them in tea to make them flesh coloured. So we didn’t have the letters stuck on our bums, they were sewn onto tea-stained underpants!”.- Jason
